Press Conference
Paul Zimmerman and
Eva Tam will present the findings of studies by Designing Hong Kong into
leisure marine and water
sports in Hong Kong.
There is an acute
shortfall of affordable mooring, berthing and storage facilities for boats and
water sports equipment in Hong
Kong.
Land and money will
be needed to make sure the public can enjoy Hong Kong’s spectacular waters, 1,000km mostly
natural coastline, and the 280 islands.
These investments
will also create alternative job opportunities for fishermen who are affected
by the trawling ban.
Based on our
research ‘Vibrant Harbours – Water Activation Projects’ we will be proposing
locations for marine recreation facilities.
Sites have been
selected based on criteria including, minimal ecological impacts, presence of
leisure marine activities, available land, road access and minimal impact on
commercial marine traffic.
The recent Ting Kau
Beach incident demonstrates the gap between demand for public boating
facilities and the availability of facilities.

Press Release
Vibrant Harbours:
Waterfront Activation Projects
Public boat and
water sports storage facilities along Hong Kong’s coast
Hong Kong has a
spectacular 1,000km coastline, 280 islands, blue waters and white sand beaches.
But unless you are super rich, there is no space to keep your boat or water

it on the minibus, and you can’t take it on the MTR.
Based on our
research ‘Vibrant Harbours – Water Activation Projects’ we will be proposing
locations for marine recreation facilities.
Sites selection
criteria include minimal ecological impacts, presence of leisure marine
activities, available land, road access and minimal impact on commercial marine
traffic.
The 15 Projects are
