Support the relocation of the Maritime Museum from Stanley to Pier 8 in Central

The
Maritime Museum has asked the Town Planning Board to approve a relocation from (far away) Stanley to Pier 8 in Central.

Pier 8 in Central will make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy the Maritime Museum, and the Central Waterfront will become a more interesting destination.

The Maritime Museum is an independent public museum which opened in September 2005 in Murray House, Stanley. Funded by a charitable trust, the museum tells the story of Hong Kong’s maritime heritage, present and future.

The proposal is for the Maritime Museum to be co-located in Pier 8 with the Star Ferry. This will make the piers a ‘two-in-one’ destination as people can ride the Star Ferry and enjoy a maritime resource centre with 14 galleries covering different maritime themes.

Our volunteers will be at the Star Ferry piers from Thursday to Sunday for the next three weeks to gather support. For more information please contact Willy Kwong at [email protected] (6231 1133) or Eva Tam [email protected].

The deadline for submissions is 27 July 2010. The formal application can be found on the
Town Planning Board website
. The case number is: A/H24/19.
