Replacing Stanley’s hawkers with yet another hotel Photomontage provided by the applicant
The Town Planning Board has received a plan to replace part of Stanley’s bazaar with yet another hotel development. The deadline to submit your objection is 27 September 2016 (today) before mid-nite. The developer claims that the proposed 8-storey hotel with 30 guest rooms at Stanley Market Road is a “boutique hotel” which will improve the local environment, and enhance Stanley as a popular suburban tourist town in Hong Kong. The site has been used by hawkers since 1970s and they will be evicted. Approval of the plan will set a precedent for more applications, which will ultimately completely alter everything people cherish about Stanley. On top of that, the Southside traffic troubles are already immense and unresolved, and turning Stanley into a hotel hub is in nobody’s interest except for the few local landowners. |
