The murder of Wanchai vibrant street We can still stop the murder of Wanchai. Vibrant streets with its myriad of small shops are being replaced with blank walls, car park and service entrances. We urge you to object and submit your comment to planning application A/H5/411 before the deadline, 7 August 2018 (Tue). Click here. “We object to rezoning from the area from Residential to Commercial. Requirements for parking and (un-)loading facilities, service entrances together with greening guidelines kill the street frontage. Active street frontages are the character of Wanchai and must be maintained.” Background Swire has acquired a large block of shops along the street with residential units above at 46-56 Queen's Road East, 2-12 Anton Street and 1-11 Landale Street. This hive of activity and interest will be replaced with a deadly office development. The ground level enjoyment will be decimated and replaced with a goods vehicle parking area, a car parking entrance and building services. What is about to happen can be clearly seen at the adjacent site, 28 Hennessy Road. Here the same developer has replaced the previously active street front with a deadly large empty hole. This massacre of our city has to stop. The developers claim that they can’t do better. With big tears they blame the poor outcome on the compounding requirements put upon them by the Transport Department, Buildings Department, Fire Services Department, Planning Department and Lands Department. The developers, professionals and government are urged to resolve this. In the meantime, the public should let the Town Planning Board know that enough is enough. We want vibrant streets instead of blank walls with gaping holes and some fake greening.
Proposed development at 46-56 Queen's Road East, 2-12 Anton Street and 1-11 Landale Street will kill the active street frontage and replace it with a deadly hole of nothing |
