"This is Our Land” Dialogue Series️ 「我城我地」對談系列 “This is Our Land” Dialogue Series Housing Affordability - Dream or Crisis? Property prices have sky rocketed in major cities around the world due to quantitative easing, low interest rates, and capital flight from Mainland China. The prices also reflect the success of global cities, attracting ever more people competing for limited space. More so in Hong Kong, where Government in 2003 decided to halt land supply and sell off its public housing sites to private developers. Access to public housing and home ownership are out of reach for new entrances, and the cost of business is increasing. The good news is that the living space per capita is steadily increasing, and the pipe line of development and housing sites is improving. The questions now are – Do we have a land supply or an affordability crisis? Will the increase in land supply lower housing prices? Do our housing policies prioritize the people who are inadequately housed? Join the debate on Saturday 18/8! Date: 18th August,2018 (Saturday) "This is Our Land" Dialogue Series is organized by the "Citizens Task Force on Land Resources" to promote public discussion over land resources in Hong Kong. We invite guests speakers to broaden the participants' understanding and to assist participation in this important public discourse. |
