Tired of waiting for a minibus with empty seats? Waiting for a minibus can sometimes be longer than the journey itself. The previous increase in seat capacity took place in 1988 when government amended regulations to increase the number from 14 to 16. Over the past 26 years, our population has grown by 1.6 million, or 28.5%. Yet, under pressure from the bus and taxi operators, government has held on to the view that minibuses are only auxiliary transport and any increase of seats could have a negative impact for the other transport operators. The time has come to change this. The Government is conducting a public transport strategy study. With your support we will lobby the Government and Legislative Council for “More seats on the minibus!”. The other benefits? Increased revenue per vehicle and per driver will allow the industry to improve the service quality, while controlling fare adjustments. It will also provoke early retirement of old buses and reduce air pollution as only new vehicles can accommodate additional seats. Join our online petition campaign: “More seats on the minibus!”. |
